"Every year, NDSS reminds the world in a big way about the gifts that people with Down syndrome bring to their communities through a special video presentation on a jumbo screen in the heart of Times Square in New York City."  This picture was chosen.

The Sprout Film Festival raises awareness of people with developmental disabilities by showcasing videos.  Their goal is to accuratley portay people with developmental disabilities and promote a greater acceptance of differences and awareness of similarities.  My favorite video is called "Jimmy" and is attached to this post.

My brother Daniel was born with something extra. An extra chromosome, the doctors call it Down syndrome.

I chose today to start my blog about down syndrome awareness because it is world down syndrome day.

I hope this blog makes people realize that those with down syndrome are really "Just Like Us", so here goes......

 I started this blog for an english project and hope it can continue.  I selected Down Syndrome Awareness for my brother.  It completely baffles that years ago when a baby was born with down syndrome, the parents were advised to place them in an institution.  Why?  While we have come a long way since then, we still need to be more aware and accept those with down syndrome unconditionally.

Today is world down syndrome day.
